Harding Township was named for then-President Warren G. Harding. It’s located 32 miles from NYC. New Vernon and Green Village are two sections of Harding, in southeastern Morris County. If you love to see horses, sheep, and wildlife roam the fields, this is the place to be. Forbes magazine ranked New Vernon as "one of the 25 most expensive zip codes" in the country in 2006.
There is a small shopping area known as The Country Mile with several shops and businesses. Many of the businesses here are in quant area and charming antique buildings. If you need more shopping options you can head to some surrounding towns like Morristown, Madison, Chatham, Summit.
Surrounded by The Great Swamp and Jockey Hollow, a 1,200-acre National Park you will find approximately 27 miles of walking trails.
There are many protected areas in Harding and New Vernon allowing the area to maintain its rural atmosphere. Here you will find some sprawling homes with large acreage. You most certainly will not be on top of your neighbors in this area.
One of my favorite events in the area is the Volunteer Fire Department's Country Auction held in early fall. You can find almost anything here, ranging from antiques, crafts, cars, etc…
Harding Township School District:
The Harding Township School serves public school students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Public high school students attend Madison High School in Madison.
Private schools in the area are Morristown's Villa Walsh Academy, Delbarton School, Morristown-Beard School, or a variety of other private high schools in close proximity. Residents with children in public school love the small class sizes here, but about 50% of local families send their children to private schools in the area.
Commuting from Harding:
Driving to Manhattan by car takes about an hour and 15 minutes, mainly along Route 24 and Route 78.
Although there is no train station in Harding, commuters can drive to nearby train stations in Madison, Convent Station, Morristown or Basking Ridge and catch New Jersey Transit's Midtown Direct line to Penn Station. The ride is about 50 minutes.
You can also grab the Lakeland Bus from Madison to Port Authority Bus Terminal.
