Rockaway Borough and Rockaway Township  is located approximately 40 miles west of New York City. Rockaway Borough  has a small-town charming feel. This residential community is much smaller than  neighboring Rockaway Township. Rockaway Township is one of Morris County’s largest municipalities with approximately 24,500 residents. The township is made up of some beautiful lake communities. Two significant and very popular residential areas are Lake Telemark and White Meadow Lake.


The residential areas are surrounded by beautiful parks, hiking trails and lakes.  What makes the area desirable is local commerce like the Rockaway Mall keep property taxes lower compared to some neighboring towns. There is a plethora of   local entertainment, sporting activities, and shopping in the area.

 

Rockaway School District

The Rockaway Borough Public Schools serve students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. The district's two schools   Lincoln Elementary School for grades Pre K - 3  and Thomas Jefferson Middle School  for grades 4 – 8. Public school students in ninth through twelfth grades attend Morris Hills High School, in Rockaway Borough, which also serves students from Wharton and some from Rockaway Township.

Commuting from Rockaway?

NJ Transit train service does not stop in the borough, but is accessible in adjacent towns at Denville station and Dover station. NJ Transit also offers local bus service and Lakeland Bus Lines offers bus service along Main Street to the New York City Port Authority Bus Terminal in Midtown Manhattan.  Being only 40 miles from NYC will run you about 45minutes to an hour by car.
